Troy Valve Air/Vacuum Release Valve Operations and Maintenance

Operations:
Combination air/vacuum valves perform 3 functions:

  • Allow large volumes of air to be exhausted from systems as they are being filled
  • Release accumulated air pockets while the system is in operation and under pressure
  • Facilitate drainage of system by allowing air to enter the system

Maintenance:
The longer body of sewerage valves help to minimize clogging the longer stem and lower float assembly provide a larger air pocket that keeps sewerage from fouling the working elements of the valve.

The relief valves should be inspected annually. To ease the inspection/maintenance process, backflush kits are recommended and are available. To test for the need to backflush, close the main inlet valve and open the bottom drain vale on the side of the vale body. If water drains out easily, backflushing is not required. To backflush, simply run water through the upper inlet and drain it out the bottom drain valve until clean.

Installation:
The valves are mounted at the high points in a system. Depending on size and model, they are either bolted on or screwed on. Flushing attachments should be mounted at this time also. Valves are then ready for operation.
